Big thanks...

I just wanted to say thanks to certain people for helping me with my footage and idea generation for this unit;

Nicola Shale, Steve Hutley, Alexi Panayioti, Lauren Solly and Dan Hellings- Couldnt of done it with out you guys, PEACE!

Round Up...

Overall, even though i havent used any of the software we looked at in our workshops at college (flash, i movie etc) this unit has been great fun to do- well i was doing 'pub golf' lol! I feel that if we were to do another unit where i could use the software that i learnt to use over these past few weeks then i would love to do something where i could use a high spec camera, use flash and get really creative with a film clip, as ive gone low tech with this unit, as whilst helping people with their films i had so many ideas regarding the things you can do with this software- its quality, but hey another time...

Its All Done...

Well ive now finished editing my 'How too...Play Pub Golf' film, just needs burning onto a disc!! Only hick up i had is that my film is over 2 parts, due to issues with my phones editing capabilities- i could just put it all into flash and play around with it and make it all la de da, but i wanted this unit to be done so that i didnt have to touch a Mac/Pc, part from the DVD case design and the burning onto disc part of course :p

Now all i need to do is go to college tomorrow, probably have to have a tinker with my DVD case, print it then hand it in!!!!!!

The Story Board...

Things didnt follow exactly how they were originally planned out on my story board but hey it was a guide which really helped!! These are some images of my story board- Red boxes-Film Blue boxes- Image etc etc...

Its the final countdown...

Its the last week of the unit (we do have an extention, but i want this unit done n dusted) i have all my footage collected, my story board is finished and my DVD case design is looking pretty good. Just got to put all my footage together and edit it all on my phone. Roll on tomorrow when i can hand it all in :D

What have i been up to.....

This week i have been spending my time working out a story board of how i want everything to fit together (footage/images) and also coming up with design ideas for my DVD case.

To respond to 'part B' of the brief - A manual of 'How to...', i have thought about putting on the back of my DVD case the rules of 'Pub Golf' so you know how to play and the DVD will show you how to play it, sorted-hopefully. Also i thought about adding a few 'Score cards' for the viewer to use when he/she goes and plays 'Pub Golf' so they have some to either photocopy or to use as examples.

I will be collecting the last of my footage this weekend and hopefully have everything i need to start editting on my mobile phone, ready to be burned on to disc.

The ending.........

One last thing i need to work out is how do i end my clip?

  • Clip of me falling over and being put into a taxi
  • Wake up in a police cell (need to phone the old bill and see if they will alow me in there without being arrested- dont think so but worth a shot)
  • Wake up next to a minger- have a blured image of a woman that looks hot, but as the image focuses its a minger!!
  • .... to be continued

Further development of my 'Pub Golf' idea...

Start off my film with a clip of me arriving at the 'tee' (1st hole) and then inbetween 'holes' (pubs) i had an idea of adding in a clip of the journey where i am walking between 'holes', and as i progress through the 'course' of 'holes' i could distort the video footage showing how the 'flow' of alcohol is affecting me- for example, start of walking normaly from the 'tee' to the 'second hole' then going from '2nd' to the '3rd hole' i could start staggering/swaying whilst walking......

So my sequence of footage should go; arriving-photo of the tee-videos of the 'flow' of alcohol-journey too '2nd hole'-image of '2nd hole' and so on so fourth...

*Idea suggested by a friend/star of a video clip- Steve Hutley*

The Rules...

  1. Each player must choose and consume ONE drink in each pub. Points are only scored for this ONE drink (except rule 5).
  2. The winner shall be the player with the LEAST NUMBER OF POINTS at the end of the ninth hole (see rule 3 below)
  3. Point scoring system: Just like real golf, we have defined what constitutes a 'par' ( i.e 0 points) for each kind of drink you may choose to consume. A bogie is one over par (i.e. +1), a birdie one under par (i.e. -1), an eagle two under (i.e. -2), and an albatross three under (i.e. -3).
    1. Pints of Bitter, Lager, Stout, Cider and bottles of Newcastle Brown:
      <3.7% ABV = bogie (1 over)
      3.7%-4.6% ABV = par
      4.7%-6.0% ABV = birdie
      6.0-7.9% ABV = eagle
      >8.0% ABV = albatross
e.g a pint of Tiger at 4.2 % will score you a par (0 points)
e.g a pint of Daredevil at 7.5% will score you an eagle (-2 points)
    2. Pints of shandy, bottles (330ml) and halfs:
add 2 points to those defined for a pint
e.g. a bottle of Budweiser at 5% will score you a bogie ( +1 point)
    3. Shorts:
1 shot (standard measures) = 2 over par (+2 points)
      double = par
treble = extremely stupid and won't make the end of the course
short + mixer = add one point to the score for that drink
e.g. single whiskey + coke = 3 over par (+3 points since it's piss easy)
    4. Non-alcoholic drink = 4 shots dropped (+4 points)
  4. Penalties:
    1. Failure to complete a hole (i.e. failure to finish drink) = 3 shots dropped (& no points awarded for your drink)
    2. Failure to have a drink at all = 4 shots dropped
    3. Chunder = 3 shots dropped. The other players are encouraged to sneak on their competitors should any player attempt a quick 'tactical' spew.
    4. Failure to complete the course - instant disqualification and a very bad hangover.
  5. Water hazards: Players are not allowed to go to the toilet at any hole deemed a 'water hazard'. Penalty = 2 shots dropped.
  6. Bunkers: To get out of a bunker each player must consume one shot of their choice (single measure) in addition to their chosen drink. Failure to negotiate bunker - 2 shots dropped. Shot must be neat, ie: not water, ice etc, and downed.
  7. Hole in one: Should a player DOWN a pint in one, then they may add -2 points to their score for that hole.
Definition of down: finish a drink in one go, ie: drink a full pint of chosen beverage without taking the glass away from mouth and without taking longer than 30 seconds about it. On completion, the glass should be upturned on the player's head, thus ensuring the drink was actually finished.
  8. Time: Play commences before 6pm. Competitors are allowed a strict half an hour to complete each hole. Failure to complete your drink in this time is covered by rule 4.1. Should time be running out towards the end of the evening, the referee (see rule 10) will have the discretion to further limit the time allowed at each hole.
  9. Scorecards: Each player is responsible for maintaining his own scorecard. However, at the start of the match competitors will be allocated partners with whom they will play the round. It is also a players responsibility to ensure his partner's score is correctly kept. In addition, at each hole players must declare their score to the referee (see rule 10) who will be responsible for maintaining a leaderboard.
  10. Referee: A referee shall be appointed for each game. The referee shall be timekeeper, judge, and the final arbitor in all disputes. The referees' decision is final

...Text Idea For Images

On the test video for my 'Pub Golf' where i have put '1st' over the image of the first pub, instead i should put '1st hole' and also i could add what the 'Par' is for that drink (how many mouthfuls it should take to drink the designated drink) so 'Par 1', doing this would tie in the whole 'Golf' theme more...

Amsterdam Research Image; Flow Course

Amsterdam Research Images-Tree Shape

Developed Idea for 'Flow and Course'..............

My idea for this now is as shown in the 'tester' video clip; Pub Golf (not sure if to have a long course, 18 holes or the short course, 9 holes), image (Pub) - video (Drink-Someone drinking) - image (Next pub) - video (Drink) etc etc. . . . also thought i could actual put a road map of some description (using a filter/effect) over the photo of the pub as well as text.

I would initially like to do all the filming/photography and editing on my mobile phone. This is mainly because Nigel said last week we could either use state of the art equipment or really basic, to capture our footage, so thought why not use my mobile phone - also see if i can do this with out using a computer for a change, apart from the burning my film/video onto a disc.

*SUGGESTION* From Jessica Lozanska; try starting my footage in high quality, then as you get around each hole of the course the videos quality decrease- really pixelated, to represent the drunkenness. Thank you, i like that idea.

Pub Golf Idea - Example

This is just a quick test of my idea for 'flow and course'.

Continuation of Ideas........

Tree - Shape; Evolution, Natural shapes of characters of type. Looking at trees/shrubs that take a natural form/shape of characters of the alphabet, taking photos of them and present in a slide show of some description.

Coat - Finish; Show the step by step process of preparing/painting a skirting board. Could do this in video/film medium. Could make a website for people to access to find out 'how to....' do this.

Hair - Suite; Wigs? A suite of hair, like cousin IT from 'The Adams Family', or an object of some description covered in hair.

Flash Workshop

First attempt at useing 'Flash' and creating buttons and links to other pages. Reasoning behind the content of the pages is as i was creating them i really didnt know what i was doing lol, so i was putting my initial thoughts down.

KOYAANISQATSI - Film

The class were shown a short piece from this film, i missed it so i borrowed it and watched all of it- go me lol. Thought it was really worth watching so did the misses and my best mate, purely about short clips of film of things from nature too man made objects shown in an amazing way, well worth the 1h 20 odd mins!

ko-yaa.nis.qatsi (From the Hopi language) n.
1. Crazy life
2. Life in termoil
3. Life out of balance
4. Life disintegrating
5. A state of life that calls for another way of living.

Soooo true!

Catch up.....

Last week.... a few of us didnt really understand what was being asked of us from the brief, so the easiest way of us understanding was like this- Part B 'The recipe is the manual because its a set of instructions on how to cook something' Part A 'The final outcome is the cake', make sense now?.................. lol

Initial Ideas

Flow - Course;
  • Use a toy boat and put into the River Stour and photograph its route flowing down stream, then follow its course out to sea - adding sound of water etc over the top.
  • Pub Golf- the 'Flow' of alcohol and then the 'Course' of pubs/clubs you go in. Not too sure how im going to do this yet.

In the begining...........

Tree - Shape
Hair - Suite
Flow - Course
Coat - Finish
